So you may be thinking – what are website assets? This term refers to any of the following items:

• Videos: Videos are great content from a user experience standpoint.  We tell our clients that entertaining your user is more important now than ever.  While words and catchy graphics are great for visual appeal, if you really want your site users to pay attention to your message, a short and sweet video is ideal.
• Photographs: photography is one of the most overlooked and undervalued asset out there when it is really one of the most important.  The images of your product, place of business or service can make your message come across very clearly in a highly effective manner.  The saying: “pictures are worth a thousand words” doesn’t quite say it all.  We say: “A picture says a thousand words in 1 second” – they establish tone, quality and content instantly.  After all, isn’t it your main goal to engage your user?
• Copy: Content is King!  We get many inquiries from people who want to get to the very top of Google or at least to the first page.  If your website doesn’t have quality, relevant copy (text) then this can be a very difficult task.  If you aren’t a very talented writer, we always recommend hiring one.  Writers that know about your industry or service can prove to be an invaluable asset to your company – whether it’s generating content for your website, brochure, blog, social media account… or whatever!
• Logo: if you have a logo, wonderful.  If not, you should develop one!

When you begin developing your website it is very helpful (for both you and your developer) to go into the project with a plan… be sure to include in that plan that your plan will change.  Once your website has been completed and you begin promoting your web presence  and analyzing user data, you will see certain trends with your user behavior.  As an example, you may notice that your site visitors are only visiting 2 pages when the come, and neither of those pages is your contact page.  So, how do you get them to contact you?  Do you add your phone number to the top of each page? Do you include a contact form somewhere?  Perhaps, you’d really like the visitors of your website to be reading the ever-valuable information you post to your blog, but they aren’t clicking on your blog!  What can you change?  What should be done to ensure your site visitors convert into customers?

Just because you paid your web developer to build you a website does not mean you will see the results you expect immediately.  While your developer knows how to build a site, and can make certain recommendations, realistically YOU are the one that must analyze your site visitor behavior and YOU must determine what information is the most important for your vistors to see.  Perhaps it makes sense to change the structure of your main menu, or adding your blog/news feed to the sidebar of each page, or putting a small contact form in the footer of your site… Whatever it is, it’s worth a try.

Once changes have been made to your site, you can then analyze the new behavior of your site visitors and continually mold and restructure your site until you begin to experience the results you want.

If you are expecting action from your website, then you must pay attention to it.  Once it’s been built, don’t let it get dusty.
